I’ve got a real problem with clockwatching.
Oftentimes, I’ll sit in places that obscruct views of clocks, or refuse to have my laptop open in class, simply because I’ll keep on counting down the minutes. It’s become a real problem, and it probably goes back to when I was in middle school, and I’d set my watch to EXACTLY when the bell would sound. That way, I would know down to the second when class would end.
I’ve started turning around my alarm clock, and using post-it notes to keep my eyes from wandering towards the current time at work. So imagine my jubilation when I saw that there was an application that would free me from my tendencies.
Fuzzyclock does something very simple and weird: It takes your system time, and displays it in words. So where a normal person would say “It’s a quarter to one,” Fuzzyclock does exactly that. Try downloading it here.
That’s all there is to say about it, really. Except that I found out about it by watching one of Merlin Mann’s screencasts. There’s some other good stuff in there, some of which I use.
Feel free to comment on my neuroses.
